During this phase, we work intensively in partnership with each woman to assist her in securing income and housing. Also, we support women in utilizing the shelter’s rich offering of tools and services to work through trauma, begin to plan for self-sufficiency, and expand her capacity to grow through involvement in enrichment and wellness programs. Our services include enriched housing for families and single women, trauma-informed child development, and free counseling to anyone, regardless of gender, who is a survivor of trauma and abuse. For over 40 years, House of Ruth has provided safe and stable housing to women, children and families in the DC area who have experienced houselessness and abuse. House of Ruth Maryland is one of the nation’s leading intimate partner violence centers, helping thousands of battered women and their children find the safety and security that so many of us take for granted.

We Need Your Support

Martha‘s Table exists because every child, regardless of zip code, should have the opportunity to thrive. For over 40 years, the organization has been working to increase access to quality education, health and wellness resources, and family supports. The length of time a woman or family can live in shelter is based upon her individual needs and goals. We encourage battered women to use time at the beginning of their stay as respite, rest and sanctuary. This is the time that battered women use to look back and forward and to decide the best next course of action. Women who choose to remain in shelter beyond this period will enter the “short-term transitional” phase of the program.

Childcare in the Shelter

House of Ruth is not affiliated with any religious ideals or practices. We are so grateful for all the support we received last month during what can be a difficult time for our clients and their families. Kidspace begins offering multi-generational psychotherapy to children and parents.

The Domestic Violence Support Center

All of these services are offered in House of Ruth’s homes for families. Families living in rent-subsidized apartments get supportive services from House of Ruth through the Bridges Program and FamilySpace. Altogether, more than 110 families are cared for annually at House of Ruth.

Domestic Violence

House of Ruth offers comprehensive services and housing for women and children. Our services range from supportive housing for families and single women in crisis, to a therapeutic child and family development center, and free counseling services to anyone who has experienced domestic violence. Join our community of donors and help us support women as they end the cycle of domestic violence.

Welcome to House of Ruth

Women and children with safe and stable housing through our 13 housing programs. We focus on the long-term success of our program participants, providing safe housing and resources to find and retain employment, along with a continuum of other services. At House of Ruth Maryland, we provide victims with food, shelter, counseling, legal and other services that will ensure their continued survival.

Your donations make a life-changing difference in the lives of women who may have never known kindness and respect until they came to House of Ruth. Government funding to help these women is scarce, and we rely heavily on private support to fund our residential programs. House of Ruth began as a shelter for women experiencing houselessness in 1976; at that time, it was the only shelter dedicated to serving women in D.C. It quickly became clear that many women were in need of more than just a meal and a bed. LAHR provides advocacy with restraining orders along with support for families who have open court cases, most of which are with the Department of Children Services. Our Case Managers advocate for the family on all levels as well as attend all court appearances to offer stability and support.

We understand that many victims need additional tools, skills, and resources if they are to become self-sufficient and live free of violence. Making good decisions about what is in their family’s best interest is a first step. But, developing and applying the skills and knowledge to become psychologically and financially independent is the crucial next one. The center is a licensed childcare center for children ages 6 weeks – 5 years old.

When a family moves on to permanent housing, we assist in securing mental health support close to where they are living. As years went, on we came to understand the variety of needs accompanying houselessness and domestic violence. Today, we operate 15 programs across the District of Columbia, including housing, counseling, and child development services. Our 84-bed shelter is a safe, supportive, temporary refuge for victims of intimate partner violence and their children who are in immediate danger or at risk of homicide. We help women living in shelter begin recovery from the trauma of their partner’s violence and to rebuild their lives.

Metropolitan area, who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence. House of Ruth provides free counseling and case management for survivors of domestic abuse. With your help, we can continue to empower women and children here in D.C. Offering supportive, transitional and permanent housing to women and their dependents in the D.C.

Counselors are trained in crisis intervention, safety planning, counseling and legal referrals, and pro-active advocacy to victims, as well as their families, friends, and the community in general. For a list of resources from other agencies that might be able to provide services, click here. At House of Ruth, families find the tools and opportunities they need to transform their lives, finding safety and stability. Most important of all, families find caring, skilled staff who are available to them around the clock to help them. Washington, DC, has a history of lacking shelters for women, and our services were built on improving those conditions. House of Ruth is open to anyone who identifies as a woman and their dependents.

Dr. Veronica Maz was a Georgetown University professor when she founded House of Ruth. She realized that, while there were shelters for men in D.C., there were no shelters for women at the time. She went on to found not only House of Ruth, but Martha’s Table and SOME (So Others Might Eat).

Without a home the only thing you’d be thinking about is finding a home. Women and children provided with safe and stable housing through our 13 housing programs. We are here to help survivors of domestic violence and houselessness.

Legal services, including advocacy, representation and assistance with immigration issues are available shelter residents through our legal clinic. Many of the mothers at House of Ruth are not yet prepared for employment that will allow them to fully support their families. Our staff actively links them to education and training that will lead to a family-sustaining wage. Check out the video below to learn more about our programs for women and House of Ruth’s intake process.

We are a comprehensive domestic violence agency based in Southern CA; servicing the eastern Los Angeles and western San Bernardino counties. We believe every home should be a safe place and we are committed to making that belief a reality in the communities we serve. Since 1977, we have worked to end the threat of partner abuse by providing a number of housing, counseling, legal, and outreach options.

An individualized plan is developed with each person focusing on their immediate safety, mental health and addressing related issues. This plan then serves as a reference point for monitoring progress. Our therapists help participants gain access to critical resources for housing, employment, education and training, child care, legal issues, budgeting, safety planning, and more. We work to empower women by providing safe housing and access to the knowledge and resources they need to find their path toward independence. Our programs are designed to meet each participant where they are and develop an individualized plan so that they can reach their goals and support themselves and their families. The House movie review & film summary 2022

the house movie

Each tale—which, while animated, are dark and creepy and morbid and decidedly not for young children—centers on a different house. The houses are beacons of corruption, objects of scams, and symbols of thwarted dreams. The protagonists move into them, out of them, fix them up, tear them down, and ride them off into the sunset. And with all three houses come lessons about materialism, about deception, and about letting go.

House II: The Second Story (

Since they’re the house—and the house always wins—they should make enough money to pay for Alex’s college education in no time. A young girl named Mabel lives with her father Raymond, mother Penny, and newborn sister Isobel in relative poverty. After a visit from wealthy, condescending relatives, Raymond wanders drunk into the forest at night and encounters the mysterious architect Mr. Van Schoonbeek. The following morning, Van Schoonbeek's employee Mr. Thomas visits the family and convinces Raymond and Penny to accept Van Schoonbeek's offer to move into a new luxurious house built for them at no charge. The plot of the first film was based on an original story written by Fred Dekker, with subsequent movies being based on his initial concept.

But despite his disastrous showing, an old, unsettling rat couple is “very interested” in the house. To say it doesn’t end well for the contractor is putting it mildly—the final, haunting shot is an image so viscerally disturbing, so relentlessly bleak, that I’ll be thinking about it for weeks to come. And yet, it is also an artistic triumph achieved by destroying such a meticulously-built set. The first tale, titled simply “Story 1,” is directed by Marc James Roels and Emma de Swaef, a Belgium stop-motion filmmaking duo. Roels and de Swaef’s gorgeous set takes viewers back to the 1800s, where a family of four (all vaguely off-putting fabric dolls) is living in a modest home.

There are at least 45 sequels to Stuart Rosenberg’s 1979 horror drama about a family under siege by supernatural forces inside their home in suburban Amityville, Long Island. That’s more than the “Star Wars,” “Fast and Furious” and “X-Men” franchises combined. While on their way to collect flowers for the wedding, Ben and his friend Pete are seen walking alongside the Queen Victoria Building.

“The House” is an animated anthology with an inspired narrative focus, as it tells the history of one building, across time and species. With its rising directors each employing a surreal style, it creates a rich balance of ethereal, existential storytelling with stop-motion animation that’s so detailed and alive you can practically feel it on your fingertips. Despite the various circumstances and timelines, in each story the house represents a kind of lifeline for the characters. It’s a chance for a family to inspire jealousy, for a mouse to pull himself out of the crushing weight of debt, and for a cat to slowly build the home of her dreams.

Bob is arrested, while Scott and Kate use the money they took back from him to pay for their daughter's college tuition. The House, one of Netflix’s first new releases of the year, is a straightforward concept. It’s a film split into three chapters, each helmed by a different director, all of which explore a different story related to the same sprawling home. What connects each short, aside from the physical house and stop-motion animation, is a creeping sense of dread. The House looks cute, with talking animals and dollhouse-like visuals, but in each story there’s something lurking just beneath the surface; something wrong, unsettling. It could be a recession or a scary creature — but when you put it together the result is an anthology with a trio of distinct, yet clearly connected stories.

New and Upcoming Horror

In addition to a number of award-winning shorts, like High Desert Hell and The Gemini Project, the up-and-coming genre filmmaker has previously been tapped to helm multiple music videos for the L.A.-based indie rock band Mt. That pic grew into a trilogy, also spurring the creation of Starz’s Ash vs. Evil Dead and a number of other projects. The most recent, standalone film Evil Dead Rise from writer-director Lee Cronin, grossed more than $147M worldwide last year when it hit theaters via Warner Bros, after launching at SXSW. “Almost every time you shoot a movie in Sydney, you have to pretend it’s somewhere else and frame out the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

Netflix’s ‘The House’ Is An Unsettling Stop-Motion Film With Something To Say

The Romanesque 19th-century building is actually a five-level shopping center with fashion boutiques, jewelry stores, cafes, and restaurants. The hidden gem in the Pyrmont district is home to fine dining restaurants, charming cafes, and beautiful views the of the city and Harbour Bridge. Director Will Gluck told THR that one of the best parts of filming was on location in Palm Beach, a suburb in the Northern Beaches. Located in Sydney's northern suburbs, the wedding scene in Anyone But You was filmed at Marks Park overlooking Bondi Beach and the Pacific Ocean.

After a visit from his overly critical mother, the father of the family, Raymond (voiced by Matthew Goode), takes a drunken midnight walk and makes a deal with a mysterious architect who offers to gift the family a new, luxurious house for free. Ferrell and Poehler star as Scott and Kate Johansen, nerdy suburbanites who live in a spacious home in a charming, leafy village called Fox Meadow. Their teenage daughter, Alex (Ryan Simpkins), has just been accepted to her dream school of Bucknell University. But for some reason, Scott and Kate never set aside any money for her college education; despite their well-off status, it’s unclear what they do for a living, and in an unfunny running bit, Scott is terrible with numbers. So they rely on the annual scholarship the town awards—only this year, soulless city councilman Bob (Kroll) plans to use that money for a lavish community pool. The House is a 2022 British stop-motion animated anthology film written by Enda Walsh and telling different stories forming a trilogy spanning different worlds and characters but set inside the same house.

After an unforeseen auto collision ends with his death, Laurel finds herself a widow that must care for their daughter who is now paralyzed and wheelchair-bound. Now the heir to the Cobb house, Burke begins to pressure her into selling the estate. Despite her initial resistance, inexplicable paranormal events begin to take place within their home. Scaring her into consideration of the sale, she seeks the help of a Native American spiritual guide named Ezra. After conversing with the spirits that reside in the house, the old man reveals to Kelly and Laurel that the strange happenings are the attempts of a warning from the ghosts of Roger and a number of Native Americans.

Unfortunately, during a community town hall meeting, city councilor Bob Schaeffer announces that they will not be doing the scholarship program, in favor of building a community pool, to which everyone agrees except the Johansens. The couple tries to find funding through asking for a loan, a salary raise for Scott, and getting Kate's job back, but everything is denied. They reluctantly agree to accompany their friend and neighbor, Frank Theodorakis, whose wife Raina is divorcing him over his gambling and porn addiction, to a previously-planned trip to Las Vegas. After numerous wins playing craps, they lose their winnings after Scott jinxes the table by telling Frank not to roll a seven. It’s an easy detail to forget, because it’s easy to get lost in the compelling narrative of the three short animated films that make up The House.

I can only hope that, like Rosa and her beautiful home, we can find a way to sail into the flood. When Scott and Kate Johansen’s daughter gets into the college of her dreams it’s cause for celebration. That is, until Scott and Kate learn that the scholarship they were counting on didn’t come through, and they’re now on the hook for tuition they can’t begin to afford.

Case-Control Study Designs in the Health Sciences LibGuides at Tufts University

case control design

Selecting only hospital-based cases may lead to systematic error related to hospital admission practices, whereby exposed cases may be more likely to be admitted and therefore selected into the study (a phenomenon known as Berksonian bias). Furthermore, only new (incident) cases should be selected, as nonincident cases usually over-represent long-term survivors, and diagnostic practices may change over time, introducing potential bias. When cases are selected from a secondary data source, the case definitions should be supported by previous validation studies. The most commonly cited disadvantage in case-control studies is the potential for recall bias.

case control design

Disadvantages of case-control studies

Careful consideration of time intervals in the design of the conceptual target trial and of the actual cohort or case-control study is therefore warranted. Table 1 summarises a number of identification results for case-control studies without matching. Each result consists of one of the three aforementioned sampling schemes, an estimand, a set of assumptions, and an identification strategy. Under the conditions of the “Sampling scheme” and “Assumptions” columns, an identifying functional of the estimand of the “Estimand” column is obtained by following the steps of the “Identification strategy” column. An estimand is said to be identifiable if the distribution of the available data is compatible with exactly one value of the estimand, or therefore, if the estimand can be expressed as a functional of the available data distribution.

LEVEL OF EVIDENCE PROVIDED BY CASE-CONTROL STUDIES

This was important since controls were randomly selected from Minnesota State Driver's license list (this also included the list of individuals who have the State identity card). This makes them very rigid and not generalisable, as no extrapolation can be made about other outcomes like risk recurrence or future exposure threat. The modern epidemiologist’s arsenal for causal inference is well-suited to make transparent for case-control designs what assumptions are necessary or sufficient to endow the respective study results with a causal interpretation and, in turn, help resolve or prevent misunderstanding. Our approach may inform future research on different estimands, other variations of the case-control design or settings with additional complexities. Case-control designs are an important yet commonly misunderstood tool in the epidemiologist’s arsenal for causal inference. We reconsider classical concepts, assumptions and principles and explore when the results of case-control studies can be endowed a causal interpretation.

Thus, some participants have the outcome of interest (referred to as cases), whereas others do not have the outcome of interest (referred to as controls). Thus, by design, in a case-control study the outcome has to occur in some of the participants that have been included in the study. Case-control studies, in contrast, require both a case group and a control group, as suggested by their name, and usually are used to identify risk factors for a disease by comparing cases and controls.

Risk-set sampling for per-protocol effect

One may start with a group of people with a known exposure and a comparison group (‘control group’) without the exposure and follow them through time to see what outcomes result, but this does not constitute a case-control study. Although controls must be like the cases in many ways, it is possible to over-match. Also, once a matching variable has been selected, it is not possible to analyse it as a risk factor. By definition, a case-control study is always retrospective because it starts with an outcome then traces back to investigate exposures.

Additionally, cohort studies in general are more longitudinal in nature and do not necessarily require a control group. Standing out for its portability, the DaVinci Resolve Micro Color Panel is roughly the size of a keyboard. This panel packs a punch with high-quality trackballs and machined knobs for precise control over color correction. Whether you’re adjusting shadows, highlights, or saturation, the tactile feedback provided by these controls allows for nuanced fine-tuning. We specifically studied two causal contrasts (i.e., pairs of interventions), one corresponding to intention-to-treat effects and the other to always-versus-never per-protocol effects of a time-varying exposure.

The case-control family of study designs is an important yet often misunderstood tool for identifying causal relations [12–15]. The conditions under which identifiability is to be sought for practical purposes may well include more constraints or obstacles to causal inference, such as additional missingness (e.g., outcome censoring) and measurement error, than we have considered here. While some of our results assume that hazards or hazard ratios remain constant over time, in many cases these are likely time-varying [10, 11]. There are also more case-control designs (e.g., the case-crossover design) to consider.

What Is A Case Control Study?

As observational studies, they can suggest associations between an exposure and a disease, but they cannot prove without a doubt that the exposure causes the disease. In particular, issues arising from timing, research biases like recall bias, and the selection of variables lead to low internal validity and the inability to determine causality. The strength of the association between an exposure and a disease in a case-control study can be measured using a few different statistical measures, such as odds ratios (ORs) and relative risk (RR). Is not identifiable from the available data distribution under the stated assumptions (see remark to Theorem 3, Supplementary Appendix B). However, approximate identifiability can be achieved by invoking the rare event assumption (or rare disease assumption), in which case the marginal odds ratio approximates the marginal risk ratio.

Household environment and genetic factors may be accounted for by enrolling siblings as controls. Even though matching is used to increase the efficiency in case-control studies, it may have its own problems. It may be difficult to fine the exact matching control for the study; we may have to screen many potential enrollees before we are able to recruit one control for each case recruited. For example, in the above mentioned metabolic syndrome and psoriasis, we can decide that for each case enrolled in the study, we will enroll a control that is matched for sex and age (+/- 2 years). Thus, if 40 year male patient with psoriasis is enrolled for the study as a case, we will enroll a year male patient without psoriasis (and who will not be excluded for other reason) as controls. In fact, Wacholder and colleagues have extensively discussed aspects of design of case control studies and selection of controls in their article.

case control design

In such circumstances, as in quasi-controlled studies,9 there is bound to be confounding. The other reason is that, in case-control studies, data areusually drawn from medical records or databases. Information extracted from such sources isvery unlikely to have been collected and recorded with the expectation of use in futureresearch. When the sample size is large, it becomes easier to see a signalthrough the noise. The main issues of concern with a case-control study are recall bias, its retrospective nature, the need for a careful collection of measured variables, and the selection of an appropriate control group.[3] These are discussed above in the disadvantages section.

The methodologic rigour of cohort and case–control studies evaluating drug–outcome associations is advancing, and approaches are being developed and refined that limit the generation of misleading study results. Indeed, both RCTs and observational studies are necessary, and neither is sufficient to learn about the totality of drug effects in the population. They are particularly appropriate for (1) investigating outbreaks, and (2) studying rare diseases or outcomes. An example of (2) would be a study of risk factors for uveal melanoma, or corneal ulcers. Since case-control studies start with people known to have the outcome (rather than starting with a population free of disease and waiting to see who develops it) it is possible to enroll a sufficient number of patients with a rare disease. The practical value of producing rapid results or investigating rare outcomes may outweigh the limitations of case-control studies.

The authors present a nice overview of what case control studies truly are, highlighting some of their advantages and their limitations. Although the use of true case-control studies in neurosurgery has, to date, been somewhat limited, the methodology holds substantial potential for answering important questions in our field. In a longitudinal study, researchers monitor a population over an extended period of time, and they can be used to study developmental shifts and understand how certain things change as we age.

Potential confounders should usually be measured before entry into the cohort, to avoid adjustment for factors in the causal pathway. In a case–control study, the odds ratio is the usual measure of association reported. This measure is the ratio of the odds of an exposure between cases and controls and in most cases approximates the relative risk. As in a cohort study, the analytic plan for a case–control study typically involves advanced statistical methods to adjust for multiple potential confounders.

Case-control studies can be classified as retrospective (dealing with a past exposure) or prospective (dealing with an anticipated exposure), depending on when cases are identified in relation to the measurement of exposures. It grew in popularity in the 1950s following the publication of several seminal case-control studies that established a link between smoking and lung cancer. The first step in a case–control study is to identify the cases through application of explicitly defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The case-selection process and the data sources from which cases were selected should be described in detail, especially if cases are from a variety of sources, such as hospital and community-based sources.

Above the snow-covered waterfall, the trail becomes more generous again and there is only one more steep passage over the last third-mile. Hikers may turn around at the saddle or continue on in four different directions. These tracks are barely visible under the deep snow, and only one trail sign is visible. Icehouse Canyon is located in a beautiful stretch of the Angeles National Forest near Mount Baldy Village, just southeast of the mighty Mount Baldy. At 7,500 feet, this low point in the ridgeline offers sweeping views of the western San Gabriel Mountains.

The Ice House reopens in Pasadena with newly renovated inside

In 2019, The Ice House Pasadena was purchased by Johnny Buss, the oldest son of the late Lakers owner Jerry Buss. Buss is a lifelong fan of comedy, and he has said that he plans to keep the Ice House as a premier comedy venue. Fashioned after the Lakers' Chairman's Room at the Kia Forum, the swanky private spot at the back of the Legendary Room is awash with classy crimson vibes.

History

"It's really exciting for Pasadena to have this world-class venue." Sitting in his designated booth at the back of the Legendary Room, Buss says he can’t wait to enjoy a show with the spirit of his favorite comedy fan right beside him. Normally, the trail crosses to the north side of the canyon and climbs a series of switchbacks to get to Icehouse Saddle. However, when that white thing that is usually foreign to Southern California covers the ground, the consensus becomes to take a direct track right up the center of the canyon.

Since being hired as general manager of the Ice House, Toler sees the world of comedy clubs and sports franchises as synonymous when it comes to bringing in sponsorships, succeeding at marketing and acquiring talent. As an original draft pick for the Sparks when the team started in 1997, Toler was the first player to score a basket in WNBA history. After Buss hired her as general manager of the team years later, she assembled the roster that led the Sparks to a championship victory in 2001.

Throughout the brick building in downtown Pasadena, vintage and modern flourishes demand attention like stylistic punchlines. The glowing stalactite chandeliers, electric neon art of cacti, waves and sun punctuate the walls of the California Room, the venue’s second stage. Guests pass through the red-brick walls of the revamped bar and patio area into the revived main room. Despite the club’s new mainstage set up, dubbed the Legendary Room, it still retains an intimate vibe where stand-up idols and up-and-comers have thrived on the raw energy and laughter of a working class clientele.

Some were underground chambers, usually man-made, close to natural sources of winter ice such as freshwater lakes, but many were buildings with various types of insulation. Fashioned after the Lakers’ Chairman’s Room at the Kia Forum, the swanky private spot at the back of the Legendary Room is awash with classy crimson vibes. “It’s a little easier for me with the club because the Ice House has a legendary history. Finally, burnt out on sports and other ventures before the pandemic, Buss decided to revive the comedy club dream, buying the Ice House in 2019 from longtime owner Bob Fisher, who was retiring. The club sat in limbo until recently — during which time Buss' mother, JoAnn Mueller, also passed away, before the club reopened. But over the last several months, the club has finally finished its long-awaited reshaping and is ready to turn the lights back on.

Poncho sledding, as it could be called, adds even more enjoyment to this winter hike. If Icehouse Saddle is your final destination, it is worth the extra effort to hike up the ridge to the north a few hundred feet to get above the trees for a magnificent view of the range to the east and west. The combination of blue skies, white snow, and impressive peaks make for an exception outing. One mile from the start, comes a junction with the Chapman Trail, which turns north, passing through Cedar Grove Trail Camp on a more roundabout course to Icehouse Saddle. The Icehouse Canyon Trail continues straight ahead, eventually crossing over to the south side of the creek.

Comedy legends like David Letterman, Jim Carrey, and Jay Leno have left their mark, while the likes of Dennis Miller, Howie Mandel, and Jerry Seinfeld have brought tears of laughter to the eyes of eager spectators. With a commitment to fostering new talent in the booming $300 million comedy industry, the iconic venue has enlisted former Los Angeles Sparks point guard Penny Toler to manage the club. “But I don't know anything about a club, I’ve never managed a club,” she told Buss over the phone when he first offered her the job. In 1985, a passage was discovered beneath Ardgillan Castle in Co. Since she became the club’s general manager, Toler’s been regaled by every comic she meets about stories of the club from back in the day.

From the legendary Bob Newhart to the incomparable Robin Williams, this iconic venue has witnessed the magic of comedy unfold time and time again. Sparks in 2006 — a team he'd helped build into a winning franchise in the WNBA — Jerry's health had already started declining. After his father’s death, Buss said he didn’t want to think about opening a club anymore. He shifted away from sports, bought race cars and trucks and started getting into the business of off-road racing.

The Ice House Pasadena is widely recognized as one of the top comedy clubs in the country. It offers an intimate and cozy setting where audiences can enjoy top-notch comedy performances and indulge in laughter-filled evenings.

His father's notoriously outside-the-box methods of running a team made him a genius and impossible to predict. A regular at the Comedy Store, the Improv and the Laugh Factory, Johnny said he and his dad always talked about opening their own club together before Jerry’s death in 2013 at 80. It’s also a place where he dreams of discovering the next big star.

The Ice House, known as the oldest comedy club in the United States, features a brand-new inside that is completely renovated. Comedian Margaret Cho performed Thursday night, and legendary show host and comedian Arsenio Hall put on a set Friday night. Ice houses allowed a trade in ice that was a major part of the early economy of the New England region of the United States, which saw fortunes made by people who transported ice in straw-packed ships to the southern states and throughout the Caribbean Sea. Most notable was Frederic Tudor (known as Boston's "Ice King") who formed the Tudor Ice Company in the early 19th century. In winter months, ice was chipped from a lake surface and often dragged by sled to the ice house. In summer months, icemen delivered it to residences in ice-wagons; the ice would then be stored in an icebox, which was used much like a modern refrigerator.

It's also a hike best left for times when there's no snow or ice. Don't attempt it if you haven't done long mountain hikes and if you don't have a good level of fitness. Likewise, if there's snow and ice on the route, don't attempt it unless you have winter hiking and mountaineering experience. You can purchase them in advance through the club’s official website or by calling their box office. Online ticketing options are also available for your convenience.
